I am Ryan Herd, founder of One Sound Choice, former two-term Mayor of Pequannock, author, and TEDx speaker. I have worked in technology for over 35 years. My team sets up Wi-Fi, audio, video, security, and lighting for homes and businesses across Northern New Jersey.

What did serving as Mayor teach me about protecting families?
It taught me that safety is about planning before something goes wrong. I am the former Mayor of Pequannock Township, two terms, eight years total.
Those years included COVID. Hard decisions affected real neighbors every week. I learned to listen first, explain the plan in plain words, and follow through.

In 2017 I wrote Join the Smart Home Revolution: Make Your Home Safe, Efficient, and More Fun. The National Kitchen and Bath Association has called it Amazon’s #1 best-selling smart home book. It answers the questions I hear every week. Is a smart home just a fancy theater? What happens when the power or internet goes out? Is it worth the money?
Later I gave a TEDx talk at TEDxHiltonHead called Smart Home, Safe Home: Safely Aging at Home. It explains how quiet sensors can help an older parent stay in their own home, without cameras watching their every move.
I hold several patents, plus more patents pending, in healthcare technology that helps people age safely at home. That work makes me a better installer, because a family’s peace of mind depends on details most people never see.

Do I need a big system to get help?
No. Many projects start with one problem, like weak Wi-Fi or a camera that misses people at the door. We fix that first and only suggest more if it makes sense.
Do you work on businesses too?
Yes. We set up Wi-Fi, cameras, audio, and TVs for offices and shops, with the same care we bring to homes.
What happens if the power or internet goes out?
A well-built system keeps working locally. Lights, keypads, and locks still respond in the house, and we can add battery backup to the key equipment.
Can you help an aging parent stay safe at home?
