Ring is ushering in a new era of home security with AI-powered upgrades to its doorbells and cameras, announced at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. These advancements aim to provide homeowners with smarter, more responsive tools to protect their properties.

AI Unusual Event Alerts: A Smarter Way to Monitor Your Home

One of the standout features introduced is called AI Unusual Event Alerts. This tool monitors activity within the home environment and notifies users when something out of the ordinary occurs. Unlike generic alerts for all detected motion, this system "learns" what constitutes normal activity for an individual household. This means it can distinguish between routine movements and potentially concerning events.

The feature builds on Ring’s Video Descriptions technology, launched in June of last year. This technology analyzes events that trigger recordings and sends detailed text descriptions to users. With AI Unusual Event Alerts, homeowners can reduce the number of non-essential notifications and focus their attention only on events that truly warrant it.

Active Warnings: Stopping Threats in Real-Time

In addition to its learning-based alerts, Ring has introduced Active Warnings – a feature designed to deter potential threats before they escalate. Available to users enrolled in Ring’s Virtual Security Guard program, this system uses AI to issue verbal warnings through a camera’s speaker when suspicious activity is detected.

According to the company, these warnings are issued immediately, while a trained security expert reviews the situation to determine if further action, such as initiating two-way communication or contacting emergency services, is necessary.

New Sensors and Devices Expand the Ecosystem

Ring is also expanding its range of compatible devices with a suite of new sensors and controllers. These devices function on Amazon Sidewalk, a low-power network capable of transferring small amounts of data over long distances. Previously available only in the U.S., Amazon Sidewalk is now rolling out in Canada and Mexico, with plans to reach Europe, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan later this year.

The new lineup includes:

Additionally, Ring is introducing manual controllers like fan controls, smart plugs, light switches, and remotes to make managing devices even more convenient.

A Dedicated App Store for Enhanced Features

Ring has also launched an app store that gives users access to third-party tools designed to improve the functionality of their Ring devices. While currently only available in the U.S., the platform is expected to expand to other regions in the near future. To access these new apps, users will need a compatible Ring subscription and, in some cases, may need to connect with third-party services.

These innovations are set to make home security more intuitive and adaptable for users around the world, combining advanced technology with ease of use for a safer living experience.
